Now working from our dedicated production facility in Chesterfield, our 24,000 sq ft premises allows us to design, manufacture, and repair a wide variety of products including transport covers, made-to-measure gazebo panels, and protective plastic that has been used in both the Ebola epidemic and the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Specialised Canvas is part of the Specialised Canvas Group which also includes Banner Box Print Solutions, offering Large Format Printing, and Flagmakers, bespoke flag and flagpole products.
Catering to the local coal industry, Specialised Canvas Services began as a manufacturer of tarpaulins and vehicle covers. As the business grew we expanded into leisure and domestic products such as awnings and sunshades.
The 1980s saw a massive shift in our business, as the Coal Mines closed wiping out our principal market overnight. Thankfully, we had developed a group of wonderful customers within the transport sector, we had also developed a business supplying camping goods and products to the consumer market.
In the early 1990s Specialised Canvas entered a new era, our current Managing Director Jonathan Bramah spotted an opportunity and acquired the business, he set about revolutionising its capabilities and brought new energy to the company.
2002 saw our little company make a huge leap forward relocating, from cramped two-storey premises to a 12,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility. This opened up a vast array of new possibilities, enabling us to take on much greater sizes of project and expand our workforce to meet demand.
To satisfy the growing needs of the glamping and events industry, we began taking on projects including the sewing of large Tipis. Popular for weddings and outdoor events, and allowing us to experiment with durable fabrics and new design techniques.
Today Specialised Canvas Services hasn’t forgotten its origins, you can still pop in for a quick repair! However, we continue to develop as a company and explore new products, materials, and services, and providing first-class solutions to customers across the UK.
