IBC Protection Covers

Specialised Canvas Services design and manufacture tough, robust, high quality purpose-specific bags and covers which are guaranteed to do the job and which fulfil a variety of needs.

But we don’t always know what we might be asked to create. We were recently approached by the Chesterfield branch of a large UK plant hire business and asked to come up with something very specific.

Clee Hill are a leading construction plant hire company and the largest compaction and surface dressing hire company in the UK. They asked us to make up some covers for their IBCs, specifically those filled with AdBlue and even more specifically to protect the liquid within from direct sunlight and frost. An IBC or intermediate bulk container is a reusable industrial container for the storage of chemicals or similar liquids.

What is AdBlue?

AdBlue is a non-toxic colourless solution of water and urea used by diesel-powered vehicles as part of Selective Catalytic Reduction technology, combining with exhaust emissions and producing nitrogen and oxygen –which are less harmful to the environment.

Specialised Canvas Services rose to the challenge and produced exactly what our customer was looking for.

Mathew explained in a little more detail: ‘We required a cover to protect our IBCs of AdBlue from frost and direct sunlight. After a phone call to SCS, they offered to come out, measure up and then advise on what material they thought would be most suitable and what our options were. We decided to add a flap at the front to allow access to the IBC pump. Also, the colour of material chosen matched our logo perfectly. They provided us with a very competitive quote and even made up a prototype to test the fitting…which was spot on! In no time at all the covers were ready and were distributed to all our depots, from which we have had very good feedback.’
